Newsletter Term 4 Week 7
News from the Principal
As we head into the final weeks of the school year, there are many things still to complete! All of our student teachers have now completed their training at Amamoor (thank you teachers), Remembrance Day was celebrated, and our school concert is rapidly approaching!
The Year 6 students have been organising a 'Silver Coin Challenge' which is due to finish early in Week 8. This initiative was designed by our Year 6 students to not only raise money for their end of year celebrations, but to also get students thinking mathematically, with the coins used for number lines, times tables, measurement and grouping. So far, the Prep/1 class is just ahead of the 2/3 class, but Monday will be crucial for the winning class!
Teachers are finishing instruction and learning sequences, with students preparing to sit end of year assessments. At such an important time of the year, please ensure your child/children are in bed on time and have a healthy lunchbox with them!
Our Positive Behaviour for Learning programme has seen our students collecting enough 'Fuzzies' to fill the bucket to earn a Term award. On the last Parade, the class preferences were placed in a hat ready for the draw. Our Term award was drawn...Wheelie Day! This award will see students allowed to bring in their favourite 'wheels,' whether that be a bicycle, roller blades, skate board or scooter. Obviously, student safety will be paramount, with helmets mandatory. More information will be sent out shortly, detailing dates and times. Well done to all our students for excellent behaviour during the term.
Our inter-school swimming carnival will be held this Friday at Kandanga pool. This carnival, which is the culmination of our swimming programme for the Term, has been arranged by Dagun State School, with their P&C also organising tuckshop for the day. Notes will be sent home early this week to advise of buses and times.
This Tuesday, Mr Boyd, our PE Teacher, will be holding a technology day with volunteers from Gympie Library also in attendance. Each class will be participating in a robotics and coding challenge - thank you Mr Boyd for organising this for our students.
A big thank you must also go out to Rachael Howard and Debbie Alford for their tireless work in organsing the Year 6 Leaver's Book for 2021. This hardcover book, donated by the P&C will provide a lovely memento for our graduands. Our Graduation Dinner has also been booked at Gunabul Homestead in Gympie on the 7th of December. More information will be sent out shortly.
A position has become available on our school's P&C committee, that of Secretary. Thank you to Miss Broome for filling this role for the start of this year. If you might be interested in volunteering for this important role, please contact the school office or Rachael Howard for more details.
Also during the last week of term, the 'Star Lab' incursion will be held. This incursion will see each class having the opportunity to gaze at the heavens! Thank you to Miss Hughes for organising this event.
Our school concert is scheduled to be held on Wednesday the 1st of December, commencing at 5:30pm. Weather permitting, the concert will be held on the grounds in front of A Block, and if raining, in the Undercover Area of A Block. The concert should run for a little over one hour and parents are requested to bring a plate of food to share afterwards.
On a disappointing note, it seems we have had a couple of people loitering around the school grounds over the weekend. Although no damage was recorded, rubbish was left behind where students play and eat. As such, please keep an eye out for anyone hanging around the school out of hours and contact SchoolWatch on 131 788 in you notice anything suspicious.
Enjoy your week and take care,
Tony Benzie

Prep / 1 News
We were very lucky to have the Firefighters from Imbil Station visit the Preps – 3s. They discussed fire safety with the children and different scenarios that might occur in the event of a fire. Firefighter John then put his firefighter uniform on to show the children.
We then went up to the oval where the firetruck was. The children were very lucky as they all had a turn spraying the hose. It was a great visit!
We are very sad to see Mrs McIntyre leave us on Friday. We have really enjoyed having her as our teacher. We are going to miss “Mrs Mac” but we would like to wish her all the best in her teaching career.
Kind Regards,
Sally Meredith
Farewell and Good Luck Mrs Mac!
It was lovely to see Jakob and Jett getting up on Parade to farewell Mrs Kellie McIntyre as she finishes her training to become a teacher. Prior to leaving, Mrs Mac said to the staff that one of the things that stands out to her about Amamoor, is 'how lovely and polite the children are!' We wish her every success as she begins her new career.
2/3 Class
It seems crazy that we are thinking about Christmas, but it is definitely sneaking up quickly. This year we are participating in a Christmas Exchange, so Christmas activities have been on the agenda for us this last few days. We are writing letters and making a small gift to post by the end of the week. We are sending items all over Queensland and also into Western Australia. In return, we will receive letters and gifts from all over Queensland and WA. We will try to map where our letters come from, and learn a little bit about 25 different schools/classes.
Feel free to pop in and have a look at our map to see who we hear from.
Until next time,
Year 2/3 and Mrs Hughes
4/5/6 News
As it is the end of the school year, we are not covering any new content areas. Instead, the Years 4-6 class are completing final assessments in preparation for reporting to parents. You can assist us in this process by ensuring your child is at school and on time.
The Year 6 Graduation Night and excursion will both be in Week 10 of this term. More information will be available shortly.
The current Year 5 cohort have received a note regarding senior shirts for 2022. Please check your child's folder.
All year levels will receive their clay and 3D artworks to take home in week 10, as well as a folder of their completed artwork for the year.
Remembrance Day
With the threat of unsettled weather coming over, we, unfortunately, had to make the decision not to attend Kandanga's service this year. Nevertheless, our Year 6 leaders led a lovely service here at Amamoor for those in attendance. We also made mention of the new plaque affixed to the latest posts in the Anzac Garden, recognising the efforts of the P&C in establishing this lovely memorial.

Chappy's Corner
Hi Everyone,
Wow! I can’t believe that we are in week 7 already. This term is absolutely flying by and doesn’t look like it’s going to slow down at all. Thank you to everyone who has supported the year 6 Student Council fundraiser – The Silver Coin Challenge, the funds raised will go towards their end of year excursion, and the class who makes the longest chain on Friday will get a Free Dress Day! At the moment, it is very close between the Prep – 1’s and the 2 – 3’s with both classes on their second container of silver coins. We will have to see who has the longest chain on Friday!
I hope and pray that as we come towards the end of the year, and Christmas, that this time is not too stressful and that you are able to relax as a family and enjoy the time you get to spend together. This is a special time to be reminded of friends and family and I am excited to enjoy the next few weeks here at school.
See you around the School,
Chappy Caitlin

P&C News
The last P&C meeting for the year was held on Wednesday 17 but we have a Budget and Fundraising planning session coming up on Thursday 2 December, so if you have any ideas or suggestions on where you would like to see where the money goes or how we are going to raise some funds in some fun new way please come along to the Playgroup room 3:15pm Thursday 2 December.
Sometimes you might have a great idea or suggestion but are unable to come to a meeting you can either contact me or catch me around the school, otherwise there is a P&C folder up in the Office where you can leave your idea or suggestion to be brought up at the meeting.
Thank you to everyone who placed an order for the Panini’s Pie Drive. Your delicious pies will be arriving on Thursday 25 November to coincide with pick up time.
Unfortunately, Alex Broome has had to step down from the role of Secretary. Anyone interested in filling the position or would like some more information as to what the role entails please contact myself, one of the committee members or Mr Benzie.
