Outside of School Hours Care update
Amamoor is well under way proceeding with securing an Outside of School Hours Care provider for 2025. The expression of interest tender process will close on 21st November 2024 with service providers requiring evaluation and service approval which may take up to 90 days. Before, After or Vacation Care options for our families which is very exciting for Amamoor school and our community!
Term 4
This school term is 11 weeks long. All assessment and curriculum content will be finalised within the 10 weeks. The school will remain open for students until the end of the school year, and the school will take opportunity to implement an alternative program in Week 11. This will mean that students will be supervised but may not be remaining in their regular classrooms or with their regular teacher. Parents are requested to inform the school at their earliest convenience whether their students will be attending in Week 11 so the teachers can plan accordingly.
This year we have responded to parental consultation at the P&C meeting with a couple of changes to our Awards and Showcase. There will be an Awards Ceremony held on Monday 2nd December from 9:45am to present awards. We have a number of awards to present to recognise the hard work and effort of our students. There will be one academic and one citizenship award per year level with staff working together to moderate assessments and determine each year level awardee. In addition to the academic and citizenship award, there will be a Year 6 Dux award, Sportsmanship award, Overall LOTE awardee (Year 5/6) and Overall The Arts awardee (P-6).
The following evening Tuesday 3rd December from 5:30pm we will be hosting on Amamoor school grounds a Showcase evening. It is exciting to see our student’s practising their dances in preparation. Our students will present their dances, be awarded with their books generously donated for every student by our P&C followed by a share a plate supper.
We hope to see you and your family to celebrate a great year.
QParents app and communication
By now, most of our families have registered and are utilising the QParents app successfully. We appreciate your support and know that you will find the process beneficial. Amamoor has had QParents since 2019 and in response to the Term 3 Communication Survey, there was an overwhelming majority of parents requesting digital or online consent services from our school.
Moving into 2025, we will also be updating information on QParents for forms such as Online Services, calendar updates of school events. It is a secure, online portal that has been created by the Department of Education to provide parents of Queensland state school students with 24-hour access to their child's information. The portal allows you to securely access information about your child and communicate directly with the school. See the link for more information or come into the office. We are happy to help.

Managing heat
The weather was very hot this week and will continue to get hotter as Summer approaches. Your student’s health is of utmost priority and Amamoor will taking measures to ensure all students remain well. Please help us by ensuring all students are attending school with a water bottle.
I have included some information below on some modifications we may be making throughout the week. This information below is provided by the Education Queensland department:
Managing schools during excessive heat or heatwave conditions:
- Modify or suspend normal school activities during excessive heat.
- Postpone any outdoor or sporting activities where appropriate.
- Increase access to the coolest areas of the school grounds or facilities for lessons or other activities.
- Ensure students with additional support needs are appropriately supervised, including the monitoring of their hydration.
- Utilise water spray bottles.
- Ensure school lunch boxes are stored in cool areas.
- Facilitate and encourage students to drink plenty of water and to stay out of the sun. Department of Health recommends that during hot weather, water (room temperature or slightly cool rather than very cold) is the best fluid to drink.
- Undertake normal first aid procedures in the event of a student or staff member becoming heat stressed.
Factors to consider when managing heat conditions include, but are not limited to:
- the temperature—both ambient and relative humidity (local weather conditions can be checked on the Bureau of Meteorology website)
- the duration and intensity of the event
- rest and drink breaks
- time of day
- local environment
- acclimatisation of the participants
- fitness levels of participants
- age and gender of participants.
If the ambient temperature is between 31 and 35 degrees Celsius and the relative humidity is over 50%, there is a high to very high risk of heat illness. Planned vigorous, sustained physical activity should be limited in intensity or duration to less than 60 minutes per session.
If the ambient temperature is over 36 degrees Celsius and the relative humidity is over 30%, there is an extreme risk of heat illness. Planned vigorous, sustained physical activity should be postponed to a cooler part of the day or even cancelled.
School Grounds
We have a fairly large school grounds to maintain which means a lot of mowing and many gardens to maintain. The school is funded for ground care on the number of students not the area of the school. If there are any keen gardeners out there who would be interested in helping out and volunteering their time, please contact the school and show your interest. We would appreciate your help!
