Newsletter 2022 Term 3 Week 8
From the Principal's Desk
As I write this edition of our school newsletter, I am busily preparing for the Year 5/6 school camp to North Keppel (Konomie) Island Environmental Education Centre. This camp will see students depart bright and early (6:30am) on Monday morning from Amamoor and travel by bus to Yeppoon marina. On arrival, we will be met by the Island ferry, which will transfer us to North Keppel for our week-long stay.
While on Konomie (North Keppel) our students will participate in a range of activities including...
- night hike
- outrigging
- ghost crab study
- inter-tidal zone study
- boat tour
- snorkelling
- plankton trawl
On top of these activities, Amamoor students will build rafts, play beach games and learn about the ecology, biology and cultural history of Konomie. We will be there for the week and return by bus on Friday. Hopefully, we will arrive back to Amamoor by 6pm on Friday evening. This excursion will be a wonderful opportunity for our students to get a 'hands on' experience of the Great Barrier Reef' and I would like to again thank our wonderful P&C for paying a significant contribution toward this experience.
Last week our school hosted a Japanese Drumming incursion called 'Tyke-Oh,' Kinomi Sensei led and instructed our entire student population in the art of drumming with everyone having a fantastic time. Both traditional and contemporary drums were used during the experience, with all students able to participate.
This week also saw our new football (soccer) goals installed on our school oval. Again, a massive 'thank you' must be given to the school P&C for supporting us in finally achieving this milestone, as it has been on the 'wish list' for quite some time. These full-size goals are complete with nets and can be easily relocated during athletics and cross-country carnivals.
Our Playgroup continues to be 'ever-popular' with Miss Hanna providing a wonderful service for the families of the Amamoor region. We are constantly seeing around 19 children visiting our playgroup each week and having a fantastic experience. Thank you Miss Hanna for all of your hard work in providing this important service.
Book Week was held this week and to finish it up, a special parade was held in the school Library. With quite a few parents in attendance, most students turned out in fancy dress. Many hours were spent designing unique costumes, with the outcomes quite splendid. Thank you to all the parents who supported our students with their costumes. Voting was tough, but the eventual winners were presented later in the day with their certificates and book awards. Well done to everyone who participated and a big thank you to Mrs Alford who again, behind the scenes, worked hard to ensure the day's success.
During my absence on camp, Mrs Sarah Hughes will be acting on my behalf. Miss Broome will also be on leave during the last two weeks of Term 3, with Mrs Annie Wilson teaching on the 4/5/6 class during Weeks 9 and 10.
With Term 4 rapidly approaching, I have booked Kandanga Pool for the first six weeks swimming on a Friday afternoon. Unfortunately, due to the flooding earlier this year, work continues on rectifying damage to the facility. If the pool is not repaired in time, we have also booked Mary Valley State College Pool at Imbil as a 'back up.' Amamoor SS students will also be doing Surf Awareness for the last four weeks of Term 4 at Noosa Main Beach. This programme, conducted by Surf Life Saving Queensland, will see our students learn about beach safety and consolidate water skills learned during Terms 1 and 4. Thank you again to our P&C for sponsoring this fantastic initiative.
Selected students from Years 5 and 6 have been provided with the unique opportunity to attend a writers and illustrators workshop at the Barambah Environmental Education Centre during November this year. This week-long workshop will see our students meet and work with visiting artists and authors to help build and enhance their developing skills. Thank you Miss Broome for helping to organise this experience.
Not to be left out, our junior school will be heading off in Term 4 for an exciting excursion to both Yandina and Cooroy. Whilst this is still in the planning stages, I hope to have more information for parents in the near future.
With Mrs Meredith returning in Term 4 from Long Service Leave, our Prep Transition Days for 2023 will commence shortly. As soon as dates are confirmed, we will publish flyers and get them out to the community... more information shortly. Remember, if you know anyone who is considering Prep for 2023, please make sure you let them know what a wonderful school we have here at Amamoor!
Take care and please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Musical notes...
It is lovely to have Miss Rose back this semester teaching music at Amamoor! Term 3 has kicked off with students enjoying a range of activities including learning songs, writing their own rhythms, making soundscapes, doing movement activities and playing instruments. Here's a few photos of our students enjoying the benefits of Music...
Students of the Week
A big well done to Delilah, Ollie, Daniel, Deklin and Ronan for your efforts this week!
Instrumental Music
Last Friday, Mr Coonan held a whole-day workshop for all of our instrumental musicians. The day started with dedicated small group instruction, culminating with an ensemble for the last session of the day. With nearly 30% of students at Amamoor State School now participating in the instrumental music programme, we are proud to say that we have one of the highest 'take up' percentages in the state! Well done Amamoor. Hopefully our students will be able to play for parents at the end of year concert..fingers crossed!!!
Student Council
Dear parents and carers,
Student Council would like to remind you to continue bringing bread bags to school so we can purchase new sports equipment. The box for these is located in the School Office. We thank you for bringing in bread bags and supporting our school.
Our PBL focus for this week is 'Being a self managed learner and not organising others.' This looks like being a respectful and an independent student.
Thank you,
Savanah and Ella
