Newsletter 2022 Term 3 Week 10
From the Principal's Desk
Quite a lengthy newsletter to finish off the term with. As such, I'll not say too much, except to say a huge thank you to everyone at Amamoor State School for making it such a vibrant and happening place to be!
Included in this newsletter are many photos so that our readers can share in the myriad activities going on at our school. Next term is already shaping up to be busy as well, so to everyone, have a lovely break, stay safe and see you all again on Tuesday 4 October!
Remember, if you see anything suspicious occuring around our school during the holidays, please do not hesitate to call School Watch on 131 788.
Take care,
Tony Benzie

This week saw our Year 2 students investigate push and pull forces which culminated with them individually designing their own toy car. Some great work went into the design, investigation and experiments!

Student Council News...
Dear parents and carers,
The Student Council would like to thank everyone who participated in the bread bag fundraiser. We are waiting to see how many points we have achieved to work out what sporting equipment we get.
We hope you have a great holiday and see you next term.
Kind regards,
Savanah Cottom
About the Garden...
On Thursday, the 2/3 class harvested what peas the birds and possums had left for us in the garden as well as some fresh mint. A lot of enthusiasm was on display during harvesting and the children managed to gather two large bowls of fresh, sweet peas. They then had a great time shelling the peas (most of which made it into their cooking, although I think a few were consumed on the spot).
The children then made pea and mint fritters. Everyone helped to mix and prepare the batter and then took turns cooking the fritters. Most of them enjoyed the final product, some of which were also shared with the Prep/1 class as they had planted the peas last term during their time in the garden. The remaining fritters were then given to Mrs Alford to use for snacks at homework centre.
Just about everyone had a try of the final product and quite a few came back for seconds!
Students of the Week...
Congratulations to Elizabeth, Darcy, Hartley, Brady, Ari, Maddie, Leila and Ayah!
Author Visit
This week also saw a visit from author, Mr Rory Mathers. Rory brought along a collection of his books to read and share with the children. Rory spent quite a bit of time talking about the challenges he faced while at school and the obstacles he had to overcome with his own literacy learning. A lover of poetry, Rory has challenged our students with coming up with a few stories to read when he visits again next year!
News from the P&C...
What a busy term it’s been and I don’t know about you but I’m looking forward to a bit of a break over the holidays. This term we’ve had the Yr. 6’s head off to North Keppel Island for camp, Muster, Bunnings sausage sizzle and floods.
I have to say thank you to those parents, grandparents, staff and community members who helped with Muster. It was a crazy time but we eventually made it to the end.
The kids have been having an absolute ball using the new soccer goals and I’ve heard there have been some very competitive matches held during lunch break.
One of our families within our school community experienced the tragic event of a child passing recently. The family will be having a Celebration of Jarrah’s life on Sunday 6 November at 2:30pm down at the Amamoor station. For those of you who may have known or even have met Jarrah you would know just how much of an amazing and happy kid he was, an absolute star. In saying this the P&C have gifted the family a star named in his honor. Jarrah’s star is part of the Sagittarius constellation for anyone who would like to look to the stars and remember the beautiful soul that now lives like the star he was.
Next term has a few events happening like helping at the Bull’n’Broncs on the 1 October, Mini Photo sessions with Tracey on the 30 October, Pie Drive mid-November and then we’re into the end of year activities.
Hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable holiday and we’ll see you in two weeks.
Chappy's Corner...
Hi everybody,
The end of Term 3 has arrived! I can’t believe it. The last few weeks have been amazing, and I am so grateful that I got to go on year 5/6 camp. These students had an awesome time, and so did I! It was wonderful to see them exploring the island and having fun while learning. It has also been exciting to see what our lower grades have been up to, and I have enjoyed seeing everyone excited about learning and the respectful way in which they interact in the playground.
I can’t wait for all the exciting things which are planned for next term. I have a date claimer for another Trivia Night raising funds for school chaplaincy in the Mary Valley, and that date is October 22nd. Please look out for future information about this, and feel free to let friends and family know about it, we are hoping it will be a wonderful community event.
I hope that everyone has an amazing holiday, and comes back to school next term refreshed and relaxed ready to finish strong.
I can’t wait to see you all next term, and to hear about everyone’s holidays.
See you around school,
Chappy Caitlin
Poetry Day...
Last Tuesday, students from Amamoor State School travelled to Mary Valley State College to participate in the annual Poetry Day. Competing against the valley schools, Amamoor students did incredibly well, returning home with a bundle of trophies and rich experiences. Thank you to all who supported the day and a special thank you to Mrs Alford, who put in a tremendous amount of effort to ensure our students were well prepared!

PBL Rewards Day...
As part of our Positive Behaviour for Learning pedagogy, students collect 'Fuzzies' during the term to earn a rewards day for excellent behaviour, manners and care for others. This term students decided to bring in a plate of food to share, have free dress and fun activities during the afternoon!
5/6 Camp
Last week, students from the senior grades travelled by bus to Konomie (North Keppel) Island Environmental Education Centre for their annual camp. The trip to Yeppoon slipped by rather quickly, with lots of stops for children to stretch their legs. On arrival Yeppoon, we disembarked the bus and unpacked all our luggage. Soon after, the tender arrived to transport us to the island. Sea legs quickly developed and the trip was most enjoyed by all! Pulling up on our tropical beach, we formed a chain and helped bring the luggage off.
We were housed in cabins: boys in one, Year 5 girls in one and Year 6 girls in the other. Cabins had to be kept clean, with students (sometimes learning) to sweep floors and tidy beds and personal effects each morning! Activities included hiking, plankton trawling, intertidal walks, outrigging, snorkelling and having fun!
An absolutely fantastic experience had by all. Thank you to the P&C for helping us go on this camp and to everyone else who made this possible!
