Newsletter 2022 Term 4 Week 5
From the Principal's Desk
Welcome to the Week 5 Newsletter! Already half way through our final term for the year with plenty of activities on the calendar. Our final swmming lessons were held at Kandanga Pool last Friday, with the weather turning a little cooler for our swimmers. Thank you to Chris from Kandanga Pool and to Georgina and Andrew from the Cooroy Dolphins for another successful season of swimming. Next week we head to the pool at Kandanga again for our annual swimming carnival with Dagun and Kandanga State Schools. Students will be competing in a variety of events ranging from noodle races to the traditional freestyle, breastroke, backstroke and butterfly races. Parents are most welcome to attend on the day, with the junior races being held from 9:30am and the senior races after lunch.
On Friday, 18 November, all students from Amamoor State School will be heading off to Noosa Main Beach to commence their Surf Skills Awareness programme. Travelling by bus, we will be departing Amamoor at 9am and returning just before 3pm. On arrival Noosa, students will be having their morning tea in the grassy, shaded areas of the beach, then heading to the Surf Life Saving Club to change and leave bags in the secure area. Students then head off in small ability groups and together with a minimum of three lifesavers plus school staff, commence a variety of activities. Some of these include learing about sweeps, rips and currents, different types of waves, sand banks, and safety in the water. This programme is focused on how to be safe in the water and what to do if you get into trouble. This programme has been successfully run by Noosa Surf Lifesaving Club for many years for primary schools and we are looking forward to participating. Parents are most welcome to attend on these days and if you intend collecting your child from the beach, please inform your child's teacher. Please note that our final day for Term 4 will also be our final day at Surf Awareness and a great way to finish for the year!
Selected students from Years 4 to 6 will be heading off to Barambah Environmental Education Centre on Monday to participate in a writers and illustrators workshop. This four x day event will see visiting authors and illustrators working with students to enhance their skills. Congratulations to Maddisen, Calypso, Savanah, Amelia, Leila and Xanthe for being chosen to participate. Parents of these students have also been invited to attend a 'celebration of work' on Thursday from 10am.
This coming Friday will also be a busy day for our School Captains. Having just returned from camp, they will be assisting the junior school in the morning at our swimming carnival, then heading off to Imbil to represent the school at this year's Remembrance Day ceremony. Following this, they return to Kandanga to compete in their own swimming races. A busy time indeed!
You will notice on our school calendar that we have now commenced inter-school sport. This term we will be competing against Monkland State School in softball. This will certainly put our newly-learned skills to the test. We are looking forward to building this important sporting opportunity next year, bringing more schools and sports together.
Our junior students have also begun planning for their 'Pop-up' cafe' following the recent excursion to Yandina and Cooroy. Using products from our school garden and skills from recent dining experiences at the 'Saw and Mill' Restaurant, students are looking forward to providing a yummy meal for visitors! More information from classroom teachers shortly.
For our seniors, Graduation dinner has now been booked, our Leaver's Book is nearly compiled and ready for printing, while our Year 5 students are finalising designs for their own senior shirts. Exciting times indeed for our senior students, with high school transitions beginning shortly.
With plenty of activities planned for the next few weeks, please ensure you keep up to date with the calendar and checking for notes in your child's bag. Our Instrumental Music Programme expression of interest notes have been handed to students in Year 3 for next year, with these children also being introduced to Japanese language in Week 10.
On a sadder note, on Friday night, intruders thought that it would be amusing to destroy some of our Playgroup equipment. It is unfortunate that our lovely community has one or two who think it is fine to ruin the fun for our youngest members. Please help us protect our lovely school by keeping an eye out for anyone entering the school grounds out of hours. If you should see anything suspicious, please call School Watch on 131788 immediately.
I look forward to seeing you around our school.
Kind regards,
Tony Benzie

Hard to believe but we're at the half way mark in the term, don't blink too quickly as the end of term will be here before we know it.
For those who haven't already, make sure you get your uniform order in so you don't miss out on the size and number of items you're after. Order forms are due in this Monday 7th November.
If you haven't been able to help at one if our fundraisers so far this year, now is the time to get in and help. Next Sunday (13th) we have Bunnings sausage sizzle and we need a few people to put their hand up and volunteer for a 3hr shift. We have spots left in the 10-1 and the 1-4 shifts. It's only 3 hours of your time (or maybe if you can't help out a family member or friend can) that can make a big difference in opportunities for the kids. Either fill in the form and return it to the office or contact Rachael on 0409833500.
Pie drive orders are just about due to be handed in, Monday 14th November, so get those last-minute orders in from family and friends so they too can enjoy some delicious, quick and easy meals or treats for over the holidays.
The last half of term still has so much packed into the short time, end of year concert, surf skills, graduation events just to name a few.
Next P&C meeting and the last for the year is next Wednesday 9th at 3:30pm in the playgroup room. Looking forward to seeing you there.
Thanks,
Rachael
