Newsletter 2022 Term 4 Week 7
Principal's Report
As we head into the final weeks of the year, we have plenty to share with you in this week's newsletter. Firstly, thank you again to everyone who supported this year's book fair. With an amazing amount of books and goods sold, our school will again benefit from the proceeds raised. Thank you again to Mrs Alford for all of your hard work in the Library!
As you may be aware, selected students from our senior class attended the Writers and Illustrators camp at Barambah Environmental Education Centre recently. This camp provided an amazing opportunity for our students to engage in an array of activities, that also included nature hikes, mindfulness activities, art activities (with Paula the artist in residence), juggling, low ropes, drumming and astronomy sessions. It was again pleasing to receive feedback from the convenors as to the behaviour and focus of our students. Thank you to Ms Broome for facilitating and attending this camp.
Surf awareness at Noosa Main Beach commenced yesterday with the whole school participating. It was a lovely day and again, our students adapted quickly to their new surroundings and displayed excellent participation and manners. We will be continuing this important beach safety course over the next three Fridays, with our final session also being a lovely way to finish the year!
Our Year 6 students have begun to focus on the year ahead and their transition into high school. As noted in the calender, you will notice that Gympie State High School has their transition day on the 28th of November, while Mary Valley State College has theirs on Thursday, 1 December. These transition days form an important part of the transfer from primary into high school, and I would encourage all Year 6 students to participate in this programme.
Following on from their recent excursion to Yandina and Cooroy, our younger students have commenced preparations for their 'Pop-Up Garden' restaurant experience for parents and grandparents. This activity will be an exciting time for our junior students to put their skills to the test and put on a tasty meal for their visitors! More information shortly.
I am pleased to announce that Amamoor State School senior students have now commenced participating in an inter-school sport programme with other schools in the Gympie region. Our first experience was at Monkland State School last week, where we put our softball skills to the test. We are looking forward to the return visit of Monkland to Amamoor this week. Next year we will be participating in a wider competition in a variety of sports.
As reported at the last P&C meeting, our school has been successful in obtaining a grant to install a new LED sign for the front of the school. This sign, surrounded by graphics and the school logo, will accompany our school newsletter and provide an easy-to-read platform to ensure the community knows what is happening at our school.
We have also placed an order for new signage to be put up around the school to help visitors navigate their way from Mary St to the Office, Library, Playgroup and toilets! As well as this, we will have new step signs being placed on the risers. Hopefully, this will commence production shortly and be delivered to the school in the near future.
Over the school holidays, our groundsmen (Dave and Marcel), will be busy remulching our gardens and placing pebbles on our new Kippa (Yarning Circle) to compliment the recently sawn seats. Successfully obtaining another grant, our school will also have new blinds in the Playgroup, as well as new carpets, rugs, chairs and tables for various rooms. On top of this, our next set of concrete art will be installed during December. This will see a giant chessboard, a multi-coloured 0-100 numbers board and an alphabet worm.
There is a lot of things happening around our school and I encourage each of you to keep up to date using the attached calendar. As always, if you should have any queries or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact your child's classroom teacher or myself at the school office.
Take care,
Tony Benzie

Year 4 Camp
Our Year 4 students had an amazing experience this week as they headed off to savour the delights of Brisbane! From touring the CBD, taking a train ride, going on the River Cat, swimming at Southbank, dining at a Japanese restaurant, visiting the museum, art gallery and science centre, watching a musical at QPAC, & visting Anzac Square, our students had a wonderful adventure.
Surf Skills
Today, our entire school headed off to Noosa on our inaugural Surf Awareness programme day! It was a beautiful day at Noosa and all of the students had a great time. After a walk along the river, picnic at First Groin and a walk along Main Beach, we arrived at Noosa Surf Club ready for action.
Students were placed into groups and participated in a variety of activities to get used to the beach and surf conditions. We learnt about hand signals when in trouble, played tug-o-war, did running games, learned how to 'dolphin dive,' and even had a go on the soft boards to catch some waves.
Kitchen Garden Programme
This week, the Year 2 students cooked up some yummy food, fresh from our garden. Thanks George!

P&C News
Thank you to everyone who turned up to volunteer for last weekend's sausage sizzle at Bunnings Gympie. Christine, Natascha, Claire, Kate, Amanda, Miyuki and Cheryle turned out to help in the searing heat which was much appreciated. All money raised from this fundraiser will be directed towards camps and excursions for your children.
The P&C will be holding a fundraising planning session to help direct next year's fundraising efforts and where we would like to support the school and provide extra opportunities for your children. If you would like to attend, we will be starting at 5:30pm at the Kandanga Hotel. We envisage that the session will only take up to an hour (and kids eat free on a Thursday night!).
Pie Drive orders will be ready to pick up on Wednesday, 3o November. So remember, when you come to collect your children on the day, come to the Tuckshop and collect your order.
The next meeting for the P&C is scheduled to occur on Friday, 10 February 2023. The Annual General Meeting will proceed this meeting, with all positions being vacated for re-election. We hope to see you there!
