2023 Term 2 Week 6
Principal Report
Welcome everyone to our Week 6 newsletter! This fortnight we have had Telstra in to upgrade our bandwidth across the school. This upgrade has meant an increase in internet speeds from 4Mbps to nearly 200Mbps - quite a difference! With over 2o new laptops also now installed in classrooms, with another six on order, our students will have a much-improved access to digital technologies.
Last week our students participated in a 'Lock Down' drill to ensure our safety procedures are relevant and 'up-to-date.' Next week, we will conduct a 'Fire Evacuation' drill so that all students know how to react in case of an emergency.
This week, Nikki from Life Education, paid us a visit. Each class visited the Life Education van (and Harold!) to learn about different aspects of keeping safe. The learning opportunities offered by this programme are vital and I thank all parents for supporting ongoing access.
Repairs to our tennis court surface will commence on Friday, 2 June. Repair work will mean that the courts will be out of action for over a fortnight while the surface is pulled up, old tree root systems are removed, root barriers installed, fencing repaired and retaining walls repaired. Further to this, a new shed is to be installed adjacent to the staff carpark to replace the shed that was lost to fire. It is hoped that work on this project will commence in late June.
Our athletics (Mini Sports) carnival between Dagun, Kandanga and Amamoor, will be held on Wednesday, 7 June at Amamoor State School. This year, senior students will compete in both track and field events, as well as ball games. The day will commence with senior students competing in the 800m event, after which, junior students will compete in track events and ball games, while the senior students rotate through various field events. A canteen will operate on the day, run by the Amamoor P&C. It is envisaged that the junior students will be finished by 12pm, while the senior students will continue until around 2:30pm. Please see the schedule of events later in the newsletter.
Our Year 5 students will be attending a 'Career Pathways' day at the University of the Sunshine Coast in Gympie on Thursday, 8 June. This excursion is designed to provide an insight into some of the course programmes offered by the University and to get our students thinking about their futures.
Planning has commenced for our Under 8s Day for 2023. Mrs Meredith and Mrs Story have been busy planning for many exciting actitivies for our younger students. It is hoped that our Playgroup families will also be part of this year's experience. Tuesday, 13 June is the day to bookmark!
New signage has commenced being placed around the school. Over the next two weeks, more signage will be installed to improve accessibility around our facilities.
Looking forward to seeing you around the school.
Kind regards,
Tony Benzie

2/3 Class
Hello amazing Amamoor Families! Annie here, who teaches the Year 2/3 class on Fridays & who is running the choir program too.
Another hat that I wear is one as a Body Shop consultant and each year I run a fundraiser for Erin House - a Gympie based women’s shelter. For those who don’t know, Erin House is for women escaping domestic violence & often they come with children as well.
With the funds collected, I purchase Body Shop products for women to use while staying at the shelter. I call them Complete Care Packages and they have a shampoo, conditioner, body wash & moisturiser. I also purchase Gift Packs which have a mini shower gel & mini body butter. These are for ladies that drop in needing help with basic supplies.
In conjunction with donations, for every $500 raised, I will be donating my commission to purchase a Complete Care Package & a Gift Pack to get to my total number of packs. My goal is to purchase 20 Complete Care Packages & 25 Gift Packs. This week I made my first order of seven Complete Care Packages & 11 Gift Packs - almost half way there!
If you’d like to donate or read more detailed information about it, please head to my GoFundMe page: https://gofund.me/31737c3aIf you can’t donate, you can still help by sharing my GoFundMe page with you friends & family.
Thanks for reading!! Annie 💕

Chappy Chat
I am really enjoying being a part of such a great school and a great team of caring staff.
If you’ve ever wondered, “What does our chaplain do?” This is how I spend my time in school.
I am supporting staff and students with reading and comprehension.
I am helping with Brekky Club.
During the lunch breaks, I can be found either playing table tennis with students, or running Chappy Club - which involves fun activities with students.
A key part of what I am doing is working with several classes of students, where we are learning about friendship and respect. This involves how to be a good friend and how to be respectful toward our peers, staff, family and community.
