2023 Term 2 Week 10
Principal's Report
What a busy term we have had! Thank you to everyone for all of your support for the school and to our wonderful staff, for the hard work that each of you give, each and every day.
Today we finished our term by a special parade, with our Year 2/3 students performing for us as part of the singing training they have been having with Mrs Wilson. They gave a fantastic rendition of 'Happy' (by Pharrel Williams), with many parents still singing the song as they left the school grounds!!! Students from all Year levels will be doing choir next term as part of our ever-expanding Arts curriculum.
Today also saw our students celebrate our Positive Behaviour for Learning Rewards Day with a 'Wheelie Day.' There were roller blades, roller skates, scooters, bikes and other 'wheelie' craft rolling around the school. All participants had to pay extra special care and get used to 'road rules' as there were so many happy riders!
Our tennis court repairs continue, with most of the bank reconstruction near completion and the root barrier system being installed. The surface has now been re-levelled and the new synthetic grass is due to be installed over the holiday period. New fencing will also be completed during this period, which will hopefully mean that the facility will be able to be used at the commencement of Term 3.
During the holiday period, our gardens will have a complete make-over, with all garden beds replaced, as well as the old watering system. New soil will be delivered once completed so that our Kitchen-Garden programme can continue at school. Thank you to Mrs Tombs for successfully applying for a grant through the 'Pick of the Crop' programme to fund this much-needed repair work.
This week also saw more of our new signage being installed around the school. From our stairs at the front of the school, to Library, Tuckshop, Office, etc. these new signs will help direct visitors to the correct place.
I am pleased to advise the community that our school has recently purchased and installed an Automated External Defibrillator (AED or Defib). It is located inside the main doors to the school Library and although expensive, is a vital piece of emergency equipment to have on-site.
Our last installation of new blinds is also set to be completed during the school holiday period. This will mean that all classrooms and offices have anti-glare, 95% blockout blinds installed. These blinds not only reduce glare and help to regulate room temperatures, but they also provide a safety aspect of limited vision into a room in the case of a 'Lock Down.' Other maintenance works scheduled to be conducted during the school holiday period include pest spraying, gutter cleaning.
Our inaugural ARTS EXPO was successfully held yesterday. This was a tremendous event and provided an opportunity for students to showcase all of their amazing art works that they have created during this semester. A massive congratulations must be extended to Ms Broome for all her efforts in co-ordinating this event. Well done! We also recently held our Under 8's Day. Mrs Meredith and Mrs Story prepared a wonderful day, with Police, Fire Fighters, SES, face-painters and more in attendance. Thank you for a wonderful turnout!
Our school is continuing to acquire instruments to support our Instrumental programme. To date we have one flute, three clarinets and a trumpet on order. The school, in partnership with our P&C, have budgeted to purchase two instruments per annum. Eventually, this will mean the school has a suite of instruments that students may borrow whilst in the programme, at no cost to parents. Thank you to the P&C for your ongoing support of this Arts initiative.
Amamoor State School has also been successful in winning a sporting grant of $5000! This money will also see a new beach volleyball court being established in the current sandpit area of the school during the holidays, with a new sandpit for the children also being built. We have also purchased new sporting equipment to complement our existing supplies.
As you would be aware, the number of students enrolled at Amamoor continues to grow and at the commencement of Term 3, we will have 73 students at our school. Due to the number of students in the younger grades, this has necessitated a reshuffle of classes and ultimately, classroom spaces. Effective Term 3, our class structure will be as follows...
Prep Mrs Meredith P Block (Playgroup room)
1/2 Mrs Hughes/Mrs Wilson B Block (former 2/3 room)
3 Mr Benzie/Mrs Wilson A Block (former 4/5/6 room)
4/5/6 Ms Broome B Block (former P/1 room)
Instrumental Music will continue to be held in the Library, Japanese in the 4/5/6 room and Music will be in respective classrooms.
Term 3 is shaping up to be an extremely busy term. Some of the items already confirmed include...
- Creative Generations 4/5/6 class Brisbane (part-subsidised by P&C)
- Annie, The Musical Whole School Noosa District SHS (part-subsidised by P&C)
- RawArt Whole School Incursion (part-subsidised by P&C)
- Science Expo 4/5/6 Mary Valley SHS
- The Twits, Stage Show Whole School Caloundra (fully subsidised by P&C)
We also have our Book Fair scheduled for Week 7 and in Week 10, selected Amamoor students will be competing against Dagun, Kandanga and MVSC students for the annual Poetry Day competition!
Finally, I would like to let you know that I will be taking some long service leave later in Term three and into Term 4. As soon as I have been advised of who will be acting on my behalf while I am away on leave, I will inform the school community.
I wish each of you a safe and happy holiday period and look forward to seeing you around the school in Semester 2. Remember, if you see anything suspicious at the school during the holidays, please ring School Watch on 131788.
Kind regards,
Tony Benzie

P&C
The P&C has really started to kick into gear for the year as the fundraising events start to come thick and fast. Already we have had a Bunnings sausage sizzle and mini sports day. Coming up we have the Xmas in July raffle, another Bunnings sausage sizzle, and the Muster. These events are organised by the P&C executive team but rely on volunteers to make them successful.
On that note, I’d like to thank all those that have been involved so far. I think for the most part, those involved have found the events to be fun and rewarding. Even our meetings have a lively element to them with food and laughs aplenty. Our intent is to further turn up the fun dial and really get more people involved. The P&C serves such an important function within the community and I think we are beginning to see the fruits of our labor.
At our most recent meeting the P&C committee moved motions to continue supporting the drive to give our students rich learning opportunities in the form of excursions. Tony, as principal, is doing an amazing job identifying these opportunities and the P&C is committed to funding these events so that every student at Amamoor has access. It’s a lot of money, but our fundraising events are allowing us to do this. Again, if you can help with an event, please get in touch as we’d love to have you join the team.
If you are not aware, you can get involved in a number of ways. We have a Facebook page, a Messenger chat group, monthly meetings, an email address, a noticeboard, my number, or just grab one of us before or after school. If you have something constructive to say, please feel free to discuss the issue. We welcome the feedback and are a positive, flexible group that will try to help where we can.
