2023 Term 3 Week 5
Principal's Report
Welcome everyone to our Week 5 Newsletter! The continued dry spell has impacted our rainwater tank supply of water to the school, with us having to bring in water to supplement our supply. Hopefully, we'll get a reprieve in the weather soon.
Our tennis courts are now operational, with all groundworks completed. In saying this, the newly laid turf on the surrounding banks are struggling a bit. Work starts this weekend on our new Groundsman's shed. This will see a new double garage located near the transpiration pit installed, together with power and lighting. Short-term impacts of this work will only be around access to the staff carpark.
Our kitchen-garden area now has five beds installed with irrigation attached. All of the old and well-loved beds have been removed, with the greenhouse about to be repaired and relocated to the new concrete slab area. We intend to focus on this area and continue to expand the garden beds, as well as potentially installing an outdoor learning classroom and potting area to complement the space.
Our new pebble garden has been installed in front of the Prep classroom. Ms Broome is now working on some art sculptures to complement this garden space. Further to this work, a new path has been installed in both the Prep play area as well as to the staff carpark to improve safety underfoot.
Today, our Pre-Service Teacher, Miss Lauren Bond, finished her placement with us and the 4/5/6 class. Lauren enjoyed her time with us here at Amamoor and was thankful to have the opportunity of working with such a lovely community. We wish her every success as she continues her studies.
With classrooms updated with new computers, our next focus is to supplement the amount of ipads our Prep students have access to at school. At Amamoor State School, we work very hard to ensure that our students have up-to-date equipment and resources to meet the demands of continuous technological changes.
RawArt proved once again to be a 'hit' with all of our students. Thank you to everyone involved in this activity, especially to our P&C for their continued sponsorship. We have already booked this terrific Arts programme in for 2024 in both Terms 1 and 3!
It certainly has been a busy fortnight, as our students also travelled to Noosa District State High School to experience the production of Annie - The Musical. Again, with the P&C's support, our entire student body was able to travel to Cooroy to enjoy this excellent production, with our own Year 6 superstar (Leila) on stage. We are also preparing to travel to Caloundra next week to experience another production - 'The Twits' by Roald Dahl. Our students certainly access a wide curriculum!
Also this week, students from Years 5 and 6 travelled to Gympie to compete in the annual Primary Challenge for Maths and English. Amamoor entered two teams in both competitions, which were hotly contested. With the calibre of competitors and questions high, we came away with a commendable third place. Well done to all involved.
Our inaugural football (soccer) challenge with Gympie Central State School was also popular with our senior students. Playing both football and futsal, Amamoor displayed a great deal of talent and we are looking forward to travelling to Gympie Central later this term for the return matches.
Thank you to all of our wonderful volunteers who recently gave up their time to help at the Bunnings Sausage Sizzle and raise money for our school. Also, to all of you who have put your names down to help with this year's Gympie Music Muster. Each of these fundraisers, organised by our wonderful P&C committee, help our students access such a wide variety of curriculum activities at such a low cost.
At the end of this week I will be heading off on Long Service Leave to do some hiking overseas. During my absence, Mr Mitch Brown will be filling in for me. I am sure everyone will make him feel very welcome at Amamoor and I look forward to seeing everyone again later in the year.
Kind regards,
Tony Benzie

Library News
Raw Art
On Monday, 7 August, our students paricipated in the Raw Art workshops. This is a creative "hands-on" programme, which the students enjoy working on. We now have some very creative displays in classrooms, library and office including Picasso faces and clay work - always a favourite activity!
Thank you again to the P&C for making a significant contribution toward this activity. Invoices have been sent out and payment can be made by Qkr, EFTPOS or cash.
Kitchen/Garden Program
The students this week have been very busy in the kitchen making pizzas. After they rolled out the dough by hand, the students spread tomato paste over the base. Then they chose the topping for their pizzas. Choices for the toppings included capsicum, pepperoni, cheese, tomato and mushrooms!

Pick of the Crop
Amamoor State School had a visit this week from Keith and Charlotte from Pick of the Crop, Health & Wellbeing, Queensland. They were certainly impressed with the progress of our garden beds. Once again, a huge thank you to Dave for all of his hard work!
Keith is planning a return visit to observe our Kitchen/Garden Programme in the near future and perhaps lend a hand
