2024 Term 1 Week 10
Principal Report
This edition of our newsletter marks my last as Principal of Amamoor State School. I would like to take this opportunity to thank each of you for your support and friendship during my three years here. It has been an honour to lead this school and I will remember my time here with much fondness.
I have been continually impressed by the level of dedication of the staff at Amamoor, especially regarding their committment to the well-being and support of your children. Each of them go well above what is expected of them every single day and it has been a privilege to work alongside them.
I am pleased to advise you that Mrs Mardi Green has been appointed as Acting Principal and will commence her duties here as of the start of Term 2. Mrs Green is well-known by our staff, students and community, and will be a welcome addition to our team here. I wish Mardi every success with her new position and trust that everyone will support her as she transitions to our lovely school.
With the continual rain we have received recently, our Cross Country Carnival had to be postponed until Term 2. It is now scheduled to be held on Wednesday, 17 April, commencing 9:30am. More information will be sent out at the start of term.
We recently had a visit by the RawArt team who again, provided some outstanding art activities for our students. We are in the process to have the team from RawArt to again visit us later in the year. Thank you again to our P&C for providing funding to cover most of the costs associated with this.
Talking of the P&C, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to this wonderful team of parents. They continually work hard and fundraise to provide as much help as possible for your children. To our executive members, it has been lovely working with you and Amamoor State School is very lucky indeed to have such dedicated parents helping us provide so many opportunities.
Parent / Teacher interviews will be held during the second week of next term. Prior to this, teachers will also send out Term Overviews so that you are well informed of what curriculum areas will be covered in classrooms for the term. If you did not receive a letter regarding Parent / Teacher interviews, please contact your child's teacher or the school office.
We are planning on holding our ANZAC Day ceremony at the school on Wednesday, 24 April and hope to see many parents attend. Our Year 6 leaders will be leading this ceremony and hopefully, members from the Mary Valley RSL will also be in attendance.
All the very best for a lovely Easter holiday and I wish each of you every success for your futures.
Kindest Regards
Tony Benzie.

4/5/6 Raw Art
EARTH, AIR, FIRE & WATER
- In RawArt today, the 4/5/6 students did their first art piece around these elements (+ space).
- We had to design our symbols on paper first, then outline these with a highlighter
- These had to be carefully cut out before making our clay base
- Using sponges to paint the bases, we then arranged all of our pieces together to make our unique designs!
NATIVE ANIMALS
- To create this art piece, we each had to work in small groups
- We first cut out and painted our background card
- Next, we drew our native flora pieces
- After this we drew and cut out our native animals and glued these on the card
- Each piece was highlighted and coloured
- We then worked as a team to put them all together and finish our decorations!
PBL FOCUS
‘Be a Good Sport: Play Fairly.’
What does this look like at Amamoor State School?
Year 5 comments…
Brady: This means that you shouldn’t cheat, start fights or speak nastily to players. Being a good sport means that people get to enjoy the game.
Roisin: If you lose, big deal, it doesn’t matter. If someone cheats, just stay calm, try and solve it first, then tell the teacher if it doesn’t work.
Jaylah: you include people in games and if you get out, don’t lie about it. Use kind language, and don’t argue or cheat.
Oscar: When you’re playing a game, you don’t cry or throw a tantrum. You never tease or point the ‘Loser’ sign…you just enjoy the game and have fun.
Matilda: For example, you’re playing soccer and someone tackles you and steals the ball. If you kick them because you’re angry…that’s the wrong thing to do. Instead, do your best to stay calm and get it back!
Daniel: You should always be a fair sport and don’t get mad at simple things like losing. In sport, usually there’s a winning and losing team.
Veronica: Not holding a grudge on someone for scoring or getting angry. If someone tags you, be honest, don’t lie, don’t get mad for not losing. It’s just a game! Don’t be a sore loser. If you win a match, celebrate it but don’t rub it in the other team’s face…congratulate them instead.
Ari: If you play a game, make it fair so both teams have an even chance.
Year 6 comments…
Xanthe: Playing by the rules means that you always follow the rules and make it fair for everyone. Being a good sport means not throwing a ‘tanty’ and if you lose, congratulating the other team and being kind.
Maddie: If the opposing team wins, don’t accuse them of cheating or throw a fit! Instead, congratulate them. If you win, don’t rub it in the other team’s face, instead, shake hands and say ‘good game.’
Ethan: If someone is hurt, you don’t play on. You stop the game and help them. Likewise, if another team wins, you don’t get angry…you congratulate them.
Kirra: Always congratulate the winning team and don’t be a sore loser. Never cheat and always say ‘well done’ to the losing team and don’t rub it in their face.

In Technology today the Prep/1 started learning all about robotics. They were using Ozobots to follow along a line (map).
