2024 Term 2 Week 8
Principal Report
Dear Parents/Carers,
This will be my last newsletter to write for Amamoor State School, as the new principal will start in Term 3. I would like give a special thank you the terrific staff, parents and students for making my stay very enjoyable and memorable. It has been a busy term with the Cross country, Field Events day and Mini sports day. The children’s behaviour and effort on all these days was exemplary. Not only did they cheer their friends and team members on but they also cheered for students from other schools. This shows great sportsmanship.
Students have been busy finishing off assessments and Teachers are completing Report Cards which will be handed out Friday, week 10.
Reminders
10am - Fruit Snack - Can parents please ensure that their children have fruit in their lunchbox.
Term 3 Poetry – Amamoor, Kandanga, Dagun SS & Mary Valley College will compete against each other in Term 3 in their Mary Valley Poetry Competition. This is an annual event that all schools take very seriously. A lot of work goes into this day, not only do students recite the poem but they have costumes for presentation. If possible, can parents please take some time to help their children to choose a poem and start practising over the holidays.
Tuckshop – Every Thursday – Pay through QKR or cash in a labelled brown paper bag to the office.
School uniforms – It has been very chilly at school in the mornings. Could parents/students please make sure that they have a jumper (labelled with their name) on or in their bag. Just a reminder that short socks are also part on our Amamoor SS uniform
Before School - If parents/carers are working, students are able to go into 5/6 room from 8:00 am to 8:20am then they will a library opens for sight words and reading. Bus students will also go to 5/6 room until advised to go to the library.
After School – Just a quick reminder - Amamoor has a fantastic Homework Centre that the school runs to assist families that are working or unable to pick their children up at 3:00pm. We have been capped at 24 students that are able access this. These numbers have been reaching the capped levels in the last few weeks.
PBL Focus – ‘Respect other’s right to learn’.
Wishing you all a safe and enjoyable holiday.

It is so hard to believe that we are nearly half way through the year! We have had a busy and productive term and we are so excited about sports day!
Mrs Alford has spent a lot of her time making sure we are skilled up in our ball games, sprints and relays.
It has been fun and interesting learning about informative writing. Our learning wall has helped us to construct our informative reports.
We’ve completed some fun art projects this term. We have included a few photos to show you some of the things we have been working on. Feel free to come up to the classroom and read some of the reports that we have written.
Kind Regards,
Sally

What fun the children having been having! I’ve been out in the garden with some of our students and have been helping George show them all about how to make delicious pancakes. Not only did they have fun, but they were also developing life skills. Interesting conversations can be had when you have a spatula in your hand, like - “Can I have the next pancake?” (Because that one wasn’t big enough)
I’m finishing up this term on the Gratitude Project. Our last day will see students assemble their own gratitude tree. They will be using all the things that they’ve expressed gratitude for during this term, they will then stick leaves on their tree. Each leaf will have something that they are grateful for written on it. It will be great to see how they can express their gratitude on their tree. (The Wednesday group may take a bit longer to finish as I only see them once a fortnight).
We all give off non-verbal cues when we communicate with each other, and so it’s been interesting talking about this with the year 6 students. With that in mind, we’ve been exploring non-verbal social cues and the important role that our body language plays in this. They have really enjoyed using my non-verbal role playing cards. With these they have been able to act out being - confused, fearful, worried, bored, frustrated, anxious, annoyed and perplexed (how did a student guess that!) etc.
I’m also engaging with our students during break time through things like hand ball, and when possible Chappy Club - which enables to students to engage with me in a relaxed and fun atmosphere.
