2024 Term 3 Week 4
Principal Report
Now midway into our Term, our students are deep into their learning of their units and participating in some formative assessment as they prepare to demonstrate their knowledge. It has been wonderful to pass through our classrooms and in conversations with students in and out of the classroom to hear of their fun stories of their learning. I commend our staff for providing such interactive experiences for our students.
Homework Centre had a change last week to finish at 4pm in aligning with the Departmental requirements with the Management and Operating Hours. This is still 2 hours more per week and two days more than the funded Operating hours at a cost to Amamoor SS. This will be reviewed again at the end of this term. A reminder for families to ensure their students are registered and current days and collection times are updated regularly to the Homework Centre coordinator to ensure roll marking and staffing ratio is adequate.
The 2024 Olympics being held in Paris provides many opportunities to talk about effort, persistence, resilience, disappointment, heartbreak, joy, pride, gratitude, getting back up and so on. Perhaps one day we will see Amamoor student at an Olympics. Best wishes to all Australian athletes at the 2024 Paris Olympics!
Swimming lessons start this Friday with all students attending via bus transportation. Please remember to have named googles, swimming clothes, thongs and towels. We are going to Deep Aquatic every Friday from 12pm for four weeks (except 30th August Student Free Day).
All our year levels participated in our Amamoor based Poetry Competition last week. We were excited to see the quality of performances and effort of all the students. Congratulations to the five students per year level that will perform their individual poem at Mary Valley College in Week 10. All students are still involved in their Year Level Group Poem and have the opportunity to write their own poem which will be the third division of the Poetry Competition.
In Week 6, RAW Art will be working with our students on some great projects funded by our P&C. On Tuesday 13th August, the Year 3-6 students will be travelling to Mary Valley College for the Combined Schools Science Week.
The school have been working with our Advisory Visiting Teacher – Student Engagement Damien Olsen and Guidance Officer Adam Burke to review and design our Social Emotional Learning program. We are looking forward to implementing our strategies as well as professional development for our students and our families through information sessions during school and outside of school hours. Stay tuned for more information on how you can be involved.
Office Updates
Notes have gone home about Swimming commencing week 5. Invoices will be sent out shortly. Payments will be available through QKR, BPoint, Cash or Eftpos. If you do not receive invoices by 16 August please notify office. A huge thank you to the P&C for their contribution to keep the cost low for families.
A reminder that ALL Volunteers and Visitors attending Amamoor SS will need to sign in at the Office. If Office unattended please see the Library.
Year 3/4 Classroom
There’s been plenty of debating in the classroom over the past four weeks, as we prepare for our English assessment. It’s been a lot of fun setting up scenarios where the children have to defend the ‘yes’ side or the ‘no’ side of a topic. I can see a great future for some of the class in debating.
We are starting to prepare items for the Mary Valley Show. Everyone in the class will have the opportunity to submit and entry into:
- Art and Craft – free drawing or painting
- Clay creatures – “What will we see at the show?”
- Metalwork – wire creations
- Creative writing – “What can we do on holidays in the Mary Valley?”
There is a lego section that students are welcome to enter into. This is something that can be done from home. The theme is – free build. If you plan to enter, the lego must be at the Imbil Showgrounds between 2-6pm on 5/9/24.
Science has seen us conducting a variety of experiments with thermometers, melting and evaporation. There were many creative ways discovered to make an ice block melt last week, some were more successful than others, but that is part of the fun.
As the term rolls along, there are a few exciting events planned. Please keep an eye on blue folders for notes and information.
Please contact me if you have any queries.
Until next time,
Sarah Hughes
1/2 Classroom
We have had a fun filled start to Term 3. From measuring, dress ups, collages, math computer games, making sound instruments and investigating shadows for science, we have been very busy and have had lots of fun.
We are all excited to be starting swimming lessons at Deep Blue next Friday. Thank you to those parents who have returned permission notes for this activity. We’ve also been working very hard learning our poems for Poetry Day, coming up at the end of the term. Our class presented them on Wednesday and everyone did a fantastic job. We have also started practicing our group poems so those who are not chosen to perform their individual poems, still get the opportunity to present a poem with their class group.
Kind Regards,
Sally
