2024 Term 3 Week 6
Principal Report
It was a soggy start to the week but the rain certainly was welcomed. We will get wet again tomorrow with our second swimming lesson session. Our students enjoyed RAW Art Workshops on Monday with a range of activities entertaining and refining their skills. We know how much they enjoy these days and thank our P&C for their support to fund them.
Also this week our Year 3-6 students headed over to Mary Valley College for Science Week. Throughout the day students rotated through four activities from balloon rockets, flower bombs, creating critters and using microscopes to see microorganisms. A highlight was the sausage sizzle and zooper dooper to top off a day working alongside our cluster friends.
Last week attendance letters were sent home if the school had unexplained absences for 2024. It is a mandatory requirement that all students are provided with a reason of absence to the school. Please return these letters asap so records can be updated. Letters will be sent home every two weeks if there are outstanding unexplained absences for your student/s. Please return within three days. We understand and value family time and ask that families notify the class teacher in advance if there is planned events or absences to ensure continuity of learning for your child.
We are awaiting the final information from Mary Valley College for the Poetry day on Tuesday 10th September. Each year level has up to five selected students that will present individual poems. All students in Prep – Year 6 will be participating in the group poem and students have been encouraged if they would like to enter into the Prep – Year 6 self written division. Students are encouraged to dress up for their individual and self written poem/s with group poem props organised by the school. All students will need to travel to and from Mary Valley College in their school uniform with their school hat. A bus has been organised but private transport may be used if preferred. The bus will leave at 9am and arrive back no later than 3pm. Student will be provided with a sausage sizzle from Mary Valley College. Otherwise, they are welcome to bring their own packed lunch. They will need to bring snacks for morning tea. The permission form will come home next week.
Over the term the staff have been working with Damien Olsen to identify areas of social emotional learning to upskill our staff, students and families. Damien works in a range of schools in our cluster as an Advisory Visiting Teacher for Student Engagement. We are looking forward to the sessions he will host during and after school time to support our community.
At the end of term we are teaming up with the P&C for an exciting fundraising event of a Lapathon. Stay tuned for more information!
Office Updates
Each day is a new opportunity to learn and grow
Year 5/6 Classroom
Students have been working hard in our classes and have been flexible with the changes that have occurred over the term with the teaching team.
In Mathematics, the students excelled in their angles and three dimensional shape assessment recently. It was great to see their creativity in this area. We are now working on order of operations and place values. Students are applying their knowledge of multiplication to solve word problems and demonstrate mathematical thinking through working out.
Poetry is our unit focus in English and we have completed Part A of analysing a humorous poem. Most students are almost finished analysing their chosen poem for Part B and are working with Mrs Baldacchino on Wednesday to write their own poem for Part C.
Recently, our students demonstrated team work and collaboration at the High Ropes Challenge event. We are looking forward to next term when we head to camp to use these skills further with our Year 4 peers.
Next Tuesday, we will start our STEM Virtual Sessions with Year 6 students participaying in Maths in Sport on Monday at 9:10am and Year 5 students participating in Lego Robotics on Tuesdays at 9:10am. A great way to demonstrate their science, technology, engineering and mathematical skills in real life context learning.

Hi everyone! Running Breaky Club on Wednesdays and Fridays continues to be well supported by our students and is such a good way for them to start the day. I’m sure that at least some of our students have breakfast at home, and then like to come for a second breakfast at school. As well as providing a light breakfast, it also provides a social atmosphere for students to engage with each other before class.
Alongside Breaky Club on a Friday we are also selling hot chocolate drinks (Milo) for $2, as a year 6 fundraiser. And students have certainly been enjoying having a hot chocolate before school. What a way to start the day - breakfast and hot chocolate!
Engaging with students in our kitchen garden is always a great activity as we explore the garden, and how the plants have been growing. And we never know what exciting bugs we might find as we tend the garden. The broccoli, cauliflower and tomatoes have been amazing.
With swimming now on I’m also at the pool engaging with students who may not be swimming that week, and also with those students who are awaiting their turn in the pool.
During the lunch breaks I can be found out on the oval whilst students are playing soccer, or playing handball in the undercover area. (Some of their rules do seem a bit baffling though).
That’s all for this week. Have a great week!
