2024 Term 3 Week 8
Principal Report
Hasn’t this term absolutely flown by! We have many events filling our calendar for the rest of the term in amongst our teaching and learning. It has warmed up in the last week and we are reminding our students to bring a water bottle to school. The school have sunscreen available, however, we encourage our students to put sunscreen on before they come to school or bring their own sunscreen in their bags. A reminder as well that students are to only wear jewellery consisting of a watch or single pair of earrings. Unless approval is sought, no students should be wearing necklaces, removable tattoos or nail polish to school. School shoes include joggers or runners, not leather cowboy boots please.
This week we had our Noosa Surf Lifesavers come into school to prepare us for our Surf Skills next term. Through the Surf Awareness presentation we learnt about the flags, safe places to swim, signage and dangerous marine creatures. All students will be travelling to Noosa and back via bus with subsidised attendance by our Amamoor P&C. We are doing four sessions on Thursdays – 3rd October, 10th October, 17th October and 24th October. Students will need their swimming clothes including sun safe shirts, thongs, hats and water bottles. The note is coming home this week.
Amamoor SS will be welcoming Miss Delandelles working with Mrs Hughes in the Year 3/4 classroom for the last week of this term and the first few weeks of next term. Miss Delandelles is in her final year of her teaching degree and is looking forward to working with Amamoor students. Please make her feel welcome in our school community.
On Monday 9th September we have two groups of visitors working with our students. Firstly we have our Pick of the Crop Incursion with BeeZotted and learning all about our native bees. Secondly, we have Broncos NRL Game Development Officer Darren and Lachlan visiting to work with our Prep to Year 4 girls in preparation for the Girl’s League Tag Gala Day on 16th October. We are lucky that they have confirmed they will be providing a bus for our students to travel on.
It is very exciting to see our budding poets prepare for the Mary Valley Poetry Competition next Tuesday 10th September. All students will be participating in either the individual poem, group poem or self written poem. We ask that the notes are returned to school as soon as possible. Thank you again to our Amamoor P&C for helping support throughout financial assistance with the bus.
Finally to top off a great term, our Amamoor P&C and staff have organised a fun Friday event on 13th September with the Colour Run Lapathon and Pizza lunch. Please return these notes as soon as possible.

Chappy Chat
Well the excitement of the Gympie Muster has faded for another year. The caravans are gone, and things get back to normal in our beautiful village. I had the opportunity of volunteering at the muster on the Friday. Which is always an experience as you get to meet, and chat with, so many people, and discover a few interesting characters that turn up at the muster each year. I’m amazed at the tens of thousands of people who come back year after year. Done and dusted for another year.
At school, things are still moving along nicely as we all look forward to the September holidays. The students I’m working with in P/1 continue to learn about ways in which we can be friends and how to build strong friendships. Being involved with buddy class - yr 5/6 with P/1 has been interesting, as the yr 5/6 students help the P/1’s with some of their work.
Supporting students in class has also been an important part of my role as I support students in the yr 3/4 class.
I have also been accompanying students on their excursion to the pool.
Some of our students continue to enjoy having a game of handball with me during first break. Which provides some great exercise. (I can still show them a few moves.)
And, at the end of each day I’m at school I can generally be found farewelling students after their busy day of class. As the sun sets on yet another amazing day at our school.
LOTE
The Year 5 and 6 students have been learning about different places in Japan and reflecting on the similarities and differences in Australia. Using Japanese language, they are learning to describe different places and to talk about things they may want to do.

Sneaky Sugars!
We are calling out Sneaky Sugars! Do you know how much sugar there is in some of the popular lunchbox snack favourites? Even the snacks that claim to have fruit, or snacks we think are healthy, like muesli bars!
Here's a cool challenge to try at home. Measure out the amount of sugar in some of the lunchbox foods. You'll be surprised how much sneaky sugar is in there! Remember that 4g of sugar=1 teaspoon of sugar.
You can do this by looking at the Nutrition Information label of the packet of a snack and find the grams of sugar inn each serve. divide the grams by 4 and you will find out how many teaspoons of sugar are in each serve. The guideline for sugar (natural and added) should be no more than 10% of your total energy intake per day (approximately 12 tsp).
For more information on sugar, check out:https://hw.qld.gov.au/blog/how-to-reduce-your-sugar-intake/
