2024 Term 4 Week 2
Principal Report
Welcome to Term 4 of the 2024 school year!!
I hope you all had an enjoyable break from the routines of school days and are now ready for an 11-week term of learning and growing. Students were certainly ready to get back into their school social lives. They were also straight into teaching and learning routines. So many students seem to have had a physical growth spurt over the break, and many have had a growth in their learning as demonstrated through writing and maths lessons this week. All classes have great teaching and learning tasks to complete this term as they head towards the assessment tasks. When you visit your student’s classroom, have a look at the learning walls with your child to see and hear about what is being taught and learnt in the key learning areas. Class teachers have been sending out class newsletters outlining specific class learning and activities for this term. Also continue to read the fortnightly newsletter as it also outlines school happenings. If the link to the newsletter in your email does not work, you can always go to the school website to access the newsletter. You can also catch up on school news on the Amamoor SS Facebook page.
This term, we look forward to Prep Transition sessions, Under 8s Day, Year 4-6 School Camp, World Teachers Day, transition to high school activities, P&C meetings, Surf Skills, Prep – Year 4 Girls League Gala Day, Life Education van, IMOL concert, Year 6 Graduation, School Showcase, professional learning and so on. Never a dull moment again! Lapathon prizes will be presented at next week’s Parade – ie Tuesday. Many thanks to our P&C Association for running this fundraising activity for our school community and thank you to the families who supported the activity.
Attendance every day counts. Our school target for attendance is 92%. Our average daily attendance is roughly 86%. The importance of students attending school can’t be underestimated. Not only it is vital for their learning but it also is important for the development of friendships and feeling like they belong. If you are going to be away for an extended period of time then you need to notify the office so you can be given a form that needs to be completed to explain your child’s absence. It is a requirement that student absences are explained. This can be done by phone call, note, responding to the text message or email – either before the absence if it is a planned one, or on the day of. Unexplained absences are recorded in the student’s records and notes will be sent home every two weeks if contact is not made by families. MAKE EVERY DAY COUNT.
Uniforms: school polo shirt with blue skorts / shorts. All students are to wear school broad brimmed hats and shoes and socks. Socks need to be down around the ankles and shoes need to be joggers or similar for the range of physical activities the students participate in. All uniforms to be named please especially jumpers and socks. Jewellery: The only jewellery items allowed to be worn at school are sleeper or stud earrings, watches, cignet rings and medic alert necklaces/bracelets. Temporary tattoos/makeup: These items are not permitted. This includes fingernail polish.
Amamoor SS would like to thank Gympie Central Woolworths for their kind donations to our school this term. Each day our students are provided with free fruit for fruit break and Homework Centre on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesdays. The fruit has been a great range and quality – thank you!
The school in consultation with the P&C have been working tirelessly to prioritise our families and the need for Out of School Hours Care possibilities. In the coming weeks, there will be consultation regarding the hours, facilities and service providers. The school and P&C will commence a Tender process to establish a new agreement for the outside school hours care (OSHC) service, which is planned to be located within the school grounds. There may also be options for Vacation Care as well. Therefore, if you are interested in using an OSHC service, please complete this survey and return it to the school administration office by no later than Friday 25th October. This survey will be emailed to all families. Please let the office know if you do not receive this email.
QParents
Please find information below regarding QParents, how it can be used and how to register for it as it is a secure platform. Ultimately from Amamoor’s point of view, collection of consent forms, less printing and less sending home with the students would be one of major benefit.
QParents
The QParents web and mobile application provides parents with secure, online access to their child’s student information, including:
- Attendance and absence details, as well as the ability to notify the school of a future absence
- Digital consent forms and managing permissions
- Behaviour information
- Academic report cards
- Downloading exam timetables and assessment planners
- Viewing unpaid invoice details, payment history, and making payments online
- Viewing and updating personal student details, including medical conditions and address
- Enrolment details
- Upcoming events list showing school events and excursions.
- Engaging in their child’s learning journey.
QParents also provides an efficient and effective way for parents to communicate with the school.
QParents Account Owner
The school will invite parents for each student to be QParents Account Owners (QPAOs). QPAOs will be able to register for QParents to access and manage their child’s student information online, and submit update requests.
QPAOs can also invite another person to view a student’s information in QParents as a ‘Delegated Viewer’. The QPAO nominate which information can be viewed as the delegated viewer cannot make updates.
Registering for QParents
Creating a QParents account involves a 4-step registration process. You will need to have your child’s EQ ID (their Education Queensland identification number) in order to complete your QParents registration.
Step 1 - receive an email from no.reply@qparents.qld.edu.au with a unique invitation code and select the link to register
Step 2 – verify your identity with 100 points of ID (this must be done on a computer or laptop)
Step 3 - create a QParents account using an email address
Step 4 – add your child to the account using their student EQ ID
Once your child has been added, a request will be sent to us for final review and approval. This process protects the security of your child’s student information.
Identity verification
QParents offers two options for identity verification – online and offline.
For fully online verification (the fastest option), you will need to verify 100 points of the following identity documents:
Australian Passport | 50 pts | Australian Marriage Certificate | 40 pts |
Australian Driver Licence | 50 pts | Australian Citizenship Certificate | 40 pts |
Australian Birth Certificate | 50 pts | Change of Name Certificate | 40 pts |
Medicare Card | 20 pts | Australian Visa (foreign passports) | 20 pts |
If you cannot verify 100 points of the above ID documents online, you may still register for QParents, but you will need to attend the school to verify documentation in person after you have registered online.
Full instructions on how to verify your documents and what you may need to bring to the school will be provided as part of the invitation and registration process.
Student information security
QParents is a secure portal that meets strict industry standards and all student information presented in QParents is surfaced from the OneSchool system used by Queensland state schools. If you advise us if you don’t want to register for QParents, your account will not be created and your child’s information will not be made available through QParents.

I hope that everyone has returned to school well rested and ready for a great term 4, as we lead up to Christmas.
I had the opportunity to go on a road trip with my wife and video some whales off the coast using my drone. They are such amazing creatures. And so nurturing of their young.
It’s good to be able to take the time to hit pause and relax. Taking time to rest and relax allows us to spend time with the people who matter the most to us. It gives us opportunities to focus on hobbies, which might otherwise be put aside in the busyness of life. For some, there might be the thrill of travel and seeing new things and meeting new people. For others it might be simply enjoying the company of friends over a hot coffee (with cheese cake and ice cream of course). However you spent the holidays, I hope that you, and your children, have had an enjoyable break and been able to spend quality time together, and are ready to embrace the last term for this year.
Breaky Club has restarted for the term and many hungry children have been getting fed.
I look forward to a great term of working with the awesome children of our school.
