Term 3 Week 10
Principal's message
As we finish Term 3, I would like to personally thank all of the amazing staff at Amamoor State School for their hard work and dedication to improving the learning outcomes of each and every one of our students every day. We are incredibly fortunate to have such fantastic staff at our school and I feel very fortunate indeed to work alongside them.
As the term wrapped up, we had many activities on the go! Thank you again to Chappy Caitlin for organising the Colour Run. It was fantastic to see so many parents and visitors there to cheer on the students. The last day of term also saw our students celebrating their Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) reward...Free Dress Day, Sausage Sizzle, Movie and Popcorn! Thankfully, the excellent behaviour displayed by our students meant that the majority participated in this event, and it was a lovely way to finish the term.
It is with much sadness that we farewell a few students from Amamoor, mostly due to housing shortages in the area. However, I would like to extend a warm welcome to all of our new students starting in Term 4. Welcome to Amamoor!
Our centenary celebrations continue to ramp up, with our gardens next in line for a make over. Mulch, stones and borders are set to be completed during the holidays, with hopefully, many hands to help out! Thank you to those who donated time. Also, our new flagpole will hopefully be erected this week at the Mary Street entrance to the school, with a new garden to surround it.
Next term is set to start rather busily, with an excursion on the first day of school to Kandanga Country Club to view the Melbourne Cup as it continues its tour around the nation. Thank you to Karrabee buses for providing free transport to Kandanga for our students. Also in Term 4, Amamoor State School will be visiting Mary Valley State College for our inaugural Football Gala Day, as well as Kenilworth State Community College for an OzTag carnival. Further, our swimming programme commences in Week 2 at Kandanga Pool, running each Friday, until 26 November.
Our school, in support of teacher development and training, has agreed to sponsor three students next term to complete their teacher training placements as part of their university degree requirements. Thank you to Mrs Meredith, Mrs Hughes and Ms Broome for facilitating this process and we welcome our pre-service teachers to Amamoor!
Our school Lap-A-Thon fundraiser, originally pencilled in for Term 3, is now scheduled to be held on the first Friday of Term 4, the 8th of October. This fundraising activity will be run from 9:30am on the day, with students completing laps of the oval to raise money. Also at the end of the first week, our P&C will be holding a sausage sizzle at Bunnings Gympie (Sunday 10 October) to raise funds for the school. Thank you to Rachael and the P&C for organising this fundraiser.
Preparations for our centenary celebrations continue to gather speed, with Mrs Diane Cleary leading the charge! Diane has continued to work tirelessly to ensure our celebrations on 16 October run smoothly. If you are able to lend a hand on the day, whether helping with carparking, in the P&C stallholders tent selling home baking, tea and coffee, in the souvenir area, in the 'Meet and Greet' tent or helping to set up on the 14th, 15th or 16th, please contact Diane to register your availabilty. Thank you in advance!
Finally, our Prep Open Day is to be held on Wednesday, 27 October, from 9 - 10:30am, with an information session the following Wednesday from 4:30 - 5:15pm for those who can't attend. Both should be an excellent opportunity for parents to understand what fantastic facilities are available at Amamoor!
I wish you a happy holiday period and look forward to welcoming you all back to school on Tuesday, 5 October.
Stay safe and kind regards,
Tony Benzie

“In August I went to an inter-school Campdraft at Warwick. I wore my school uniform and competed against people from other schools. I rode my stock horse called Gracie. I had a great time! I’m going to another Campdraft on the school holidays. I also like doing the novelties, barrel racing and riding with friends and family.”

P&C News
The year is flying, and we have reached the end of a jam-packed term with only one more to go for the year. The kids have enjoyed either going to camp or a trip to Australia Zoo.
We were given the opportunity to collect gold coin donations for car parking at the Off Grid Lifestyle Expo that was held at the Imbil showgrounds. Thank you to Hanna, Rachael B, Steve, Shell, Kate, Matt, Dee, Trent, Lauren, and Claire for giving up their time on short notice to help collect money and direct cars. Fantastic effort guys.
Lap-a-thon is back on, unfortunately our first try was a wash out. Our first Friday morning back next term we will be having the long-awaited Lap-a-thon. How many laps of the oval do you think will be done between 9:30 and 10:30? This will be followed by some light and delicious snacks from Breaky Club.
There are still some time slots needing to be filled for the Bunnings Sausage Sizzle on the 10 October. If you could help fill a 3-hour slot, please contact Rachael, or return your note to the red mailbox in the office.
Our Centenary celebration is happening just after the holidays. To help prepare we are having a working bee on Tuesday 21 September. If you could spare some time to help create the sundial area, mulch, and tend the gardens. All help is welcome from 9am.
The 16th October is when we will be celebrating the 100 years of Amamoor State School. There will be memories and friends both old and new to be made and seen. To help with the celebrations we will be looking for some of our fabulous bakers to provide some home baking for the event. Volunteers are also needed to help in the lead up to the event (putting up tents, sign, etc), during (assisting with car parking, sales of either souvenirs or home baking) or after (dismantling tents, clean up). Please contact Di to offer your assistance to help create this memorable day.

A message from the Queensland Chief Health Officer…
You and your family (including all children aged 12 years and older) are encouraged to take the opportunity over these school holidays to get vaccinated for COVID-19.
Children aged 12 years and older can receive a Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine at a Queensland Health vaccination location or at a participating General Practice (GP). In the very near future, you will be able to access Moderna (Spikevax) vaccine at a participating community pharmacy.
I encourage you to please make this a priority for your family these school holidays by taking the below actions.
How to book
- Register your interest to receive your COVID-19 vaccine at a Queensland Health vaccination location.
- Older children can register themselves separately if they have their own email address or
- A parent or guardian can register and set up their children as dependents. All correspondence will be managed through the parent/guardian’s email address. Read more about creating a dependent in the vaccine booking system.
If you need assistance with vaccination bookings, call 134 COVID (13 42 68).
- Access the COVID-19 Vaccine Eligibility Checker to book a vaccination at a participating GP or community pharmacy.
Walk in opportunities
Walk in appointments are currently available at selected Queensland Health vaccination locations. To find your closest walk in vaccination location, please visit www.health.qld.gov.au/vaccinelocations.
Consent
For young people, consent from a parent/guardian is usually required. In Queensland:
- individuals aged 12 to 15 years may require a parent/guardian to provide consent, however may be mature enough to provide informed consent
- individuals aged 16 years and older are generally deemed to have capacity to consent for vaccination.
It is recommended that children under the age of 16 have a parent/guardian with them at their vaccination appointment. Young people seeking to provide informed consent themselves, without parental consent, should speak to their vaccinating clinician.
Find out more about age of consent for vaccinations online.
Additional information and support
For more information about the COVID-19 vaccine and children, please visit Queensland Health’s website for children, young people and parents.
If you need an interpreter to book your vaccination appointment, call 13 42 68 and ask to be connected to an interpreter. If an interpreter is needed to phone this service, first call the Translating and Interpreting Service on 13 14 50 and they can connect you.
If an interpreter is needed at the vaccine appointment, advise a staff member when you arrive at the vaccination location so they can arrange this for you. This is a free service.
Thank you for your cooperation to keep Queensland and our school community safe.
