2025 TERM 1 WEEK 6
Principals Report

As some communities continue to feel the effects of Tropical Cyclone Alfred, I would like to acknowledge the efforts of our staff, families and students for their calm responses and tireless work to prepare for this event. In these types of scenarios, it is easy to fall into the hysteria but it was business as usual at school this week with a number of classes completing assessments of learning they have been working towards. It is always a pleasure to witness the growth from our students when I am working in our four classrooms but also proud moments when they come up to the office to present their podcast speech or show their spelling words. Next week we are welcoming Martin Leach our School Supervisor into our school. He is looking forward to working with our team on our Annual Improvement Plan of delivering engaging English and Maths curriculum aligned to Version 9 Australian Curriculum with a focus on reading.
To support our student’s learning into their English unit, the Year 5/6 students will be attending the Wizard of Oz musical on Thursday 13th March. Our final swimming lesson will be held on Friday 14th March and we are gearing up for the Mary Valley Small Schools Swimming Carnival. This will be at Kandanga Pool with Dagun and Kandanga students on Tuesday 1st April. Nominations have been underway and will be finalised by Friday 21st March. All families were emailed yesterday the program and tuckshop menu. We would appreciate some volunteers in the pool to assist with our swimmers.
The annual NAPLAN testing period for Years 3 and 5 is approaching from next week. We start with the Writing task followed by Conventions of Language (ie Spelling + Grammar and Punctuation), Reading and Numeracy. If students are absent for any of the tests, they have the opportunity to complete the missed task/s by Friday 21st March. NAPLAN is only one testing instrument we use.
Attendance is especially important in these last few weeks as we finalise assessments for Term One. Our teaching team are more than happy to work with our families in preparing consolidation activities they can do if there is planned absences for family reasons. Your child, our student. One team.
The Amamoor SS P&C Association will hold its Annual General Meeting on Monday 17th March. Parents and Citizens' (P&C) associations work in productive partnership with their school principal and the community to promote the interests of the school, and facilitate its development and further improvement, to achieve the best possible outcomes for students. P&Cs provide feedback and advice on school policies and activities, assist in providing resources to enhance student outcomes and are involved in a variety of school activities including fundraising and school functions. I look forward to working productively with our P&C committee again this year.

Our pantry operates on a simple yet powerful principle: Take what you need, leave what you can.
Over the past years, we have seen an incredible outpouring of support. Thanks to our school community.
Every act of kindness, no matter how small, has a ripple effect. When we give, we inspire others to do the same.
