Term 4 Week 2
Principal's Report
What an incredibly busy start to the final term of the year! Firstly, I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to everyone who was involved in making our centenary celebrations such an outstanding success. The heavens cleared, the sun was shining and the school grounds looked superb. I would estimate that there were approximately 350 people in attendance on the day, with many travelling quite a distance to attend. A fantastic response for a small school.
In the lead up to Saturday, our hardworking and dedicated groundsmen (Dave and Marcel) worked overtime to ensure the grounds were looking lovely, the new flagpole was installed, Picasso had a new coat and the garden beds were freshly mulched. The staff were also busy tidying and beautifying classrooms ready for inspection, rehearsing songs, plus finishing articles for placement in the time capsule.
Meanwhile, our wonderful P&C volunteers were organising homebake stalls, painting signs, making flyers, setting up marquees and displays, as well as organising advertising, first aid and staffing rosters - well done and thank you! A special mention must again go to the Centenary Committee members for your tireless work, in particular Diane Cleary and her lovely family. From organising and setting the plinth and sundial, to merchandising and the compilation of our school centenary book, your work and dedication was outstanding and so very much appreciated by all. Thank you.
I continue to receive comments on a daily basis on how well our centenary day ran. It was indeed a lovely, relaxed occasion and I feel very fortunate indeed to have been involved in celebrating such an event with this community.
This now leaves us with seven weeks until the end of the school year and we have many events still to come. Swimming has commenced at Kandanga Pool and will continue each Friday until the 26th of November, when our swimming carnival is due. Next week our 4/5/6 class heads off to Mary Valley State College for our inaugural Mary Valley Football Gala Day. There is our Star Lab incursion on Wednesday, 27 October and RawArt is scheduled for Monday the 1st of November!
Our Prep Open Day will also be held on Wednesday, 27 October, from 9:00 - 10:30am. If you know of anyone in the valley who has a Prep-aged child next year, please encourage them to come along to our Open Day and experience what Amamoor has to offer!
Aside from selling ice blocks each Tuesday afternoon, our Year 6 students will be holding a silver coin challenge starting in Week 5 (1 November). Students will be encouraged to bring along as many silver coins as they can and attempt to make the longest line possible. Money raised will go towards the Year 6 graduation events.
Finally, our school concert has been pencilled in for Wednesday, the 1st of December. The theme this year is 'Musicals.' Students have started putting together ideas and will commence preparations and rehearsals with both their teachers and our Music Teacher shortly. More details will be promulgated soon.
Term overviews have now been sent out by all teachers to explain to parents what students will be learning and assessed on for this term. This work is what will be reported on, together with the Term 3 subjects, in our Semester 2 report cards.
I wish you all a lovely fortnight and if you have any issues or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me at the school office.
Sincerely,
Tony Benzie
Prep/1 news
We would like to welcome Mrs Kelly McIntyre to our classroom for the next 5 weeks. Kelly has settled into our classroom very well and has taught some engaging and fun lessons this week. We really hope she enjoys her time with us.
We all had a wonderful time at our Amamoor Centenary on Saturday. The children had a great time playing on the jumping castle and getting their faces painted. We were even lucky to celebrate a birthday. Happy birthday Grant! We hope you had great day. The children did a fantastic job performing singing. Mrs Rose was very proud of you all.
Kind Regards,
Sally Meredith
Class 2/3 news
It’s hard to believe that this is Term 4, and we are into week 3 already!
In Week 2 we welcomed Ms Van Doren to our class. She is with us for four weeks, undertaking some teaching of lessons, observing classroom routines and helping out in the room.
Over the last couple of weeks we have been focusing on procedures. We’ve had fun with psychedelic milk, making fairy bread and paper planes. We will be writing procedures, pulling them apart and investigating what makes a good written procedure.... there will be lots of making and doing going on.
Our first week of swimming saw us venture to Kandanga pool. It was great to see everyone in the pool and doing their best. Everyone seemed to be extra hungry afterwards, so if possible, could you pack an extra bit of food in lunchboxes on Friday?
Until next time,
Sarah
Class 4/5/6 news
For the centenary, the year 4/5/6/ class drafted and typed letters to be placed in the time capsule. The students wrote about several topics including, their families, special school events, their favourite and least favourite subjects, their hobbies, and what they would like to be when they are adults. Students in this class will be approximately 35 years old in 2046!
Former school students were welcomed into the year 4/5/6 classroom, having the chance to peruse student workbooks and camp photos. Comments ranged from, “No more slates?”, “I can’t believe they have air conditioners,” and “These are some lucky students, having a room this nice and spacious.”
Thank you everyone who made the centenary such a success. It was lovely to see so many current and former students come together and celebrate the school’s 100th birthday. It was a pleasure to witness such a strong sense of community.

P&C news
Welcome back to the last term of the year and it looks to be another jam packed one.
Thank you to those who came and helped tidy up the school at the working bee over the holidays.
It was a busy first week back with Lap-a-thon and the Bunnings Sausage Sizzle. Considering the warmer than normal weather for Lap-a-thon the students did an amazing job of completing laps of the oval, thank you to our lap marking volunteers. With a bright and early start to a Sunday morning I’d like to thank the volunteers for giving up their time to either cook or serve some sizzling snags at Bunnings.
What a fantastic turn out there was at the Centenary celebration held on Saturday. There were many old friends catching up and sharing their memories of days gone by. Flowing conversations that were broken up by hoots of laughter could be heard from all directions on the oval. Trips down memory lane were made in either the tent of memorabilia or as they walked around the school as the visited the classrooms. A big thank you to Diane and the volunteers who helped to make the day so enjoyable for all who were able to attend.
We’ve also had a request to have another Pie Drive as some missed out and others have already eaten their delicious goodies and would like some more for easy dinners. Notes will be out Thursday with the delivery of the pies to be at the end of November.

Welcome back everybody!
It is so wonderful to see everyone back for term 4. It was also lovely to see such an amazing turn out for our Centenary last weekend. Such a wonderful celebration of the history of our school.
Thanks so much to everyone for participating in the School Fun Run’s Crazy Colour Day! We raised $1266 to go towards Chaplaincy here at Amamoor, so thank you all again!
I want to especially congratulate the 4/5/6 class for raising $615.50 and Calypso Jones for raising $360. Special mention goes to the Prep/1 class who raised $612, a very close second.
The event proved to be a great day and it was fantastic to see all of our students getting involved.
Get excited as we’ve just had word that certificates and prizes will be arriving shortly. Thanks again for supporting your child and our school!
Can't wait to see you around the school,
Chappy Caitlin.
