Newsletter Term 4 Week 5
Principal's News
Welcome everyone to the mid-term edition of our school newsletter. The year is slipping away very quickly now, with much more still left to cram in!
Students and teachers are all working very hard at present finishing off the teaching and learning of this term's curriculum tasks, with assessment time just around the corner. At such a critical time of the year, please continue to ensure that your child arrives on time at school every day, ready for learning, is in full school uniform, has a water bottle and plenty of healthy food to sustain them.
On arrival at school each morning, each of our learners are going via the Library to complete their Daily Sight Words or their Daily Spelling Words, prior to play. This programme continues to improve the literacy progress of our students and I thank everyone involved for your support. As the Library during this time is a rather busy place, I would like to ask parents to remain outside while your child does their daily testing. Thank you in advance.
Report cards are scheduled to be sent home with students on Wednesday, 8 December. Reports will be in sealed envelopes, with students instructed not to open them, but to hand to parents. With teachers sending the Term Overviews home to parents at the start of each term, we will only be giving an achievement grade for each of the individual learning areas this year. Teachers will be providing a behavioural comment and a comprehensive overall comment on your child's progress. Please take the time to read your child's report and share their successes with them.
As you will see later in the Newsletter, the RawArt team from Brisbane visited our school this week to provide our students with some stimulating artistic challenges. This curriculum activity was provided free of charge for students as part of our Arts programme. We are hopeful to run this programme again next year.
Our Student Councillors have begun a 'Silver Coin Challenge' to help them raise money for their graduation celebrations which are quickly approaching. The aim of the challenge is to ask students to bring in some silver coins from home (with permission) to make the longest class line. Obviously, a lot of mathematical reasoning will also take place as students count, group and measure their lines!
Swimming continues at Kandanga Pool each Friday until the 26th of November, where we are scheduled to participate in our annual carnival. This year, Dagun State School has the privilege of organising the event...more news sent home shortly. Later in the Newsletter, you will also find an article about the recent visit to our school from our local fire brigade.
During this term, we have hosted three pre-service teachers at our school. Each of our permanent teachers have provided excellent mentoring and I thank them for the time they have given to this important extra role. We would like to wish both Miss Van Doren and Mr McGregor all the best as they head off this week to continue their journey in education!
Our School Concert has been pencilled in for Wednesday, the 1st of December, with a theme of 'Musicals.' Each class continues to practise with Miss Rose as we draw closer to the date. Next week, for Remembrance Day,' students and staff from Amamoor SS will head to Kandanga to commemorate the day. Students will be wearing poppies that they have made and the school captains will be laying a wreath at the cenotaph on behalf of the school. A note will be sent home on Monday with further information.
We had a lovely turnout for our Prep Open Day last week, with quite a few new children enrolling in our school for 2022. If you know of any families new to the area, please let them know about our lovely school and encourage them to visit.
Finally, I would like to formally extend my gratitude to the publicans of the Kandanga Hotel, Kerry and Russell, for their kind donation to our school following their Melbourne Cup raffles. Your ongoing support of local Mary Valley Schools is very much appreciated.
Regards,
Tony Benzie
Farewell to Mr McGregor and Miss Van Doren

On Monday we were very lucky to participate in two amazing art activities. In the morning we made clay robots and during the afternoon session we made some bright, colourful insects. Please read the children’s reflections about their art experiences.

2/3 News
It has been a very busy fortnight…
The 100th Celebrations were exciting, and we had many visitors through our rooms. There were many comments about how the rooms are very different to how school room were like “when we went to school.”
Swimming has been exciting, and everyone is actively participating and showing improvement with their skills.
Raw Art was really great. We completed two activities, Cartoon Clay Scenes and Gary Coleman Landscapes. The finished products were very impressive. Feel free to drop into the room and have a look at the finished pieces. We will send them home in the next week or so.
This week we say ‘Farewell’ to Miss Van Doren who has been a part of our class for the last four weeks. We wish her all the best for her future studies.
Until next time,
Sarah Hughes and 2/3
4/5/6 News
On Monday, 1st of November, our Year 4/5/6 students undertook two sessions with the Raw Art programme. This was a fantastic day, for both students and staff, as we moulded our own Picasso-inspired clay sculptures and created snow-globe prints of famous cities. The students finished the day feeling inspired and we are looking forward to the next opportunity to create with the Raw Art programme.
On a sadder note, my pre-service placement here at Amamoor State School is coming to an end this Friday, the 5th of November, after five exciting weeks of teaching mathematics, science, and technology to the Year 4/5/6 class. I would like to thank all staff and students for making me feel so welcomed at your lovely school and am looking forward to the bright future of Amamoor State School.
Kind regards,
Brady McGregor

Chappy's Corner...
Hi everybody,
It has been so lovely to be able to spend time with our students as they do fun activities. This week was especially good with Raw Art, seeing all our students enjoy art and do different activities that they don’t normally get to do. We are so lucky that we get to have some amazing incursions and excursions at our school. I am looking forward to what the rest of the year holds.
See you around school,
Chappy Caitlin
Uniforms...
Hi everyone,
As we come to the end of the year, I wanted to let everyone know that order forms are now available from the office for 2022. If you need any uniforms for next year, now is the time to order them so that we can ensure we have enough uniforms to start the term. We also have our old hats, skorts, and knit shorts all available for $5.00. These are perfect to have on hand as spare uniforms and hats and are always available to purchase.

P&C Report...
I would like to start by welcoming Shirley Robson as our new Treasurer. Congratulations. Shirley has been part of the Amamoor school community for the past few years helping wherever possible.
With the end of year fast approaching the P&C is starting to wind down with only one more meeting for the year, 17 November.
Our final fundraiser for the year is the Panini Pie Drive. What better way to finish the year than with some delicious pies for some easy meals over the school holiday period. Orders and cash are to be placed in the Red Box up in the office no later than Wednesday 10 November or you can pay for your order on Qkr, just make a note on your order form that payment has been made via Qkr.
A visit from the Fire Department!
On Wednesday the 4th of November the Prep to Year 3 students were provided the opportunity to meet members of the Queensland Fire Service. Whilst listening to the Fire Crew, they learnt about fire safety and how to react when there is a fire, who to tell and what actions they could take. One of the members dressed into their firefighting attire to give the students as close to real experience as to what the fire fighters look like when searching inside burning buildings and/or areas. Students asked many meaningful questions to gain a better understanding of the dangers and actions involved with fires. The four rules they learnt included “Stop! Drop! And Roll!”, “Yell and scream! Help!”, “Get down low and go, go, go!” as well as “Get out and stay out!”. To finish the visit, students were given a chance to operate the fire hose, and we would like to thank the Year 6 students for assisting throughout the afternoon.
